Simple Way To Understand Food

This is John Logan at Powerfit Personal Training in Rohnert Park, CA. Here’s a simple way to understand food, so when you put it in your body, you know why.

First is protein, a lot of people don’t get enough protein. If you don’t enough protein, you’re not going to be feeding your muscles and your metabolism isn’t going to be at its highest point. Next is carbohydrates, carbohydrates are your energy source. If you don’t get enough carbohydrates, you’re always going to feel sluggish. If you get too many carbohydrates, you’re going to add a bunch of fat. Next is fat, fat is a way for our body to survive the hard times, but it’s also a way for us to be healthy in a lot of different ways. It cushions all of our joints, it helps with the health of our skin and our hair, and a lot of different things. The thing with fat is it’s very dense, you don’t need a lot of it at any one particular time, a little bit goes a long way.

Next is vegetables, vegetables are super important, ’cause everybody thinks they need a multivitamin, it’s not the case. All you need to be doing is eating a lot of green leafy, all different kinds of color vegetables in your diet, as many as possible, and you’re going to get all the nutrients that you need to be healthy and vibrant. Next is fruit, fruit if everybody wasn’t addicted to caffeine, would be a great way for you to wake your body up. It’s got fructose, naturally occurring in nature, and there’s tons of nutrients packed in fruits, so it can really get you going in the morning or right before a workout.

Tying it all together is really a personal journey. It’s not something that I can fully explain to you over this video but I’m going to make it really simple. You want to have an even amount of all of those foods every three hours throughout the day.
