What exercises do you favor most? Any kind of squat variation, and row exercises for the back.
What is your specialty? Working with newcomers to develop proper form and technique to create skills and confidence.
How do your clients describe you? Patient yet relentless
What physical activity do you like to do outside of Powerfit? Lately, I’ve been getting back into shooting hoops in my spare time. I’m also training in blended martial arts and boxing.
If you could only do one exercise, what would it be and why? The barbell front squat – it trains legs, back and core all in one.
Why did you become a personal trainer? I became inspired by the people I was working out alongside, by how much it brought positive changes both physically and mentally and the joy the hard work brings. I also went through serious health issues at age 19 and 20 that taught me not to take health for granted.
Describe how you have changed a client’s life through fitness. I recently had a client discover just how much they’ve changed in feeling and looking better in only 4 months and telling me “it’s all clicking now”. Also he and his wife have noticed how much they are inspiring each other to be healthier.
What is your exercise background? I grew up playing organized sports and later mountain biking, running, cycling, and some surfing. Primarily I have been bodybuilding and Olympic weightlifting in recent years.
What is your ideal client? Someone who shows up on time, ready to work hard and keep learning, and persevere through the ups and downs.
What was the catalyst that inspired you to train? Two major brain surgeries at 19 and 20 and by how much my physical health was impacted. Then about 10 years ago I got laid off from my job and suddenly had a lot of time on my hands, so I rediscovered strength training and have been at it ever since.
